Green Warsaw even greener
A further step on the way to environmentally friendly public transport with zero-emission vehicles.
Warsaw - situated on both sides of the Vistula River – by population and area the largest city in Poland. Its urban area is divided into 18 city districts, among which Śródmieście (downtown) is the city center and is home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the rebuilt Warsaw Old Town.
It is also worth mentioning that almost ¼ of the Polish capital is made up of green areas - parks, green spaces and gardens, making Warsaw one of the privileged European metropolises. Warsaw is also one of the few capitals in the world that can boast that forests grow within its city limits!
Public transport in Poland's capital is also becoming greener.
At the end of the first quarter of 2020, the first Solaris Urbino 18 Electric started service on Warsaw's streets. A total of 130 vehicles of this type will strengthen the fleet of the Polish capital.
All ordered vehicles are completely emission-free articulated buses and are equipped with our IRMA MATRIX counting system as standard. The IRMA MATRIX sensors are connected to the on-board computer which reads the data from the sensors and then exports them to the server of the Public Transport Operator (MZA Warsaw). From there the data is sent to the public transport organizer (ZTM Warsaw) for further analysis. Further electric buses from this contract will be successively delivered to Warsaw this year.
"We are proud that both the Public Transport Company - MZA Warszawa and the vehicle producer - Solaris for their new buses have again chosen our reliable and very accurate IRMA MATRIX counting sensor. Our sensors have been successfully installed since 2016 in all newly purchased vehicles of both the MZA Warszawa and other private Warsaw transport companies: Arriva, Mobilis, PKS Grodzisk Mazowiecki, ITS Michalczewski. We are convinced that thanks to our IRMA MATRIX sensors the modern vehicle fleet and passenger transport in Warsaw will be better adapted to the needs of passengers" - comments Tomasz Gawryluk, Regional Director of iris-GmbH, responsible for the development of sales in Central and Eastern Europe.
The purchase of 130 electric articulated buses from Solaris is a great event for us. With this and our other investments in rolling stock, we will soon have almost 500 emission-free and low-emission vehicles. This is one of the best results in Europe and very good news for Warsaw residents," said Jan Kuźmiński, President of the Management Board of Municipal Bus Company Sp. z o.o.
"This is a big step for the citizens of Warsaw to improve the air quality in the capital. It is also an excellent example of how to manage modern public transport and transform it into sustainable transport", says Javier Calleja, Chairman of the Board of Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. - " With the integration of all 130 electric buses into the MZA fleet, Warsaw residents will be able to take advantage of the benefits already this year".
